HAPPY PUPPY? HAPPY PUPPY? Little Black Puppy woke to the sunrise from the inside of his home. Little Black Puppy slept on a blanket he called his own. Little Black Puppy ate and drank from his special bowls. Little Black Puppy plays with his toys and slides on the hardwood floors. Little Black Puppy ran with the wind when it was warm outside and chased Butterflies. Little Black Puppy watched the sun set and dreamed of happy puppy moments on a blanket he called his own. Little Bigger Puppy wakes to the sunrise on the end of a chain. Little Bigger Puppy sleeps on dirt, under a car, on a chain. Little Bigger Puppy eats and drinks from bowls he hopes are filled. Little Bigger Puppy plays with sticks, stones and anything that blows his way on the end of a chain. Little Bigger Puppy runs with the wind, until he's stopped at the end of a chain. Little Bigger Puppy chases butterflies as far as the chain will allow, feeling free as a butterfly for a single moment, in puppy time. Little Bigger Puppy watches the sunset at the end of a chain and dreams of Little Bigger Puppy moments, on dirt he calls his own, interrupted by the sound of the chain. (Note: This puppy on a chain under a neighbors car, inspired me to write this poem. The puppy was given to me when she was five months old, and my other neighbor is the proud owner of this beautiful dog, Shadow, who is very loved and cared for.)
